“We Lead Braintree”

Braintree District Council have launched an exciting new project, ‘We Lead Braintree’ to support you and your organisation, starting in January 2025.  Anglia Ruskin University’s 3rd Sector Futures team will be offering a selection of high-quality training opportunities for vcs, charity and social enterprise leaders in Braintree district.  Full details are on the attached flyer and at www.weleadbraintree.org.uk but please note that there is an online session on Tuesday 17 December, 11:30-12:00 which will give you an opportunity to find out more – book your place here.

Places are fully funded for this training (and for the two other elements of We Lead, aimed at community organisers and those wanting to set up a new organisation). However, BDC anticipate high demand and would suggest signing up as soon as possible.

Men’s physical health – a vital conversation

Men’s health often takes a backseat to other concerns. However, it’s crucial to prioritise and address the unique health challenges that men face.

Many men feel pressured to be strong and independent, making it difficult to seek help for any potential health problems.

Regular physical health check-ups are vital to treat any problems in time and routine check-ups can detect potential health problems early on.

These are key screenings which all men should be aware of and undertake regularly:

  • Prostate Cancer: regular screenings can help detect prostate cancer in its early stages.
  • Heart Disease: blood pressure checks and cholesterol tests are essential for heart health.
  • Skin Cancer: self-exams and regular skin checks can help identify skin cancer.
  • Testicular Cancer: self-exams are crucial for early detection.

If you are over the age of 40, you can get a free NHS health check by a healthcare professional.

Keeping fit and healthy

Remaining fit and healthy is more of a challenge than ever, due to busy lifestyles and other commitments.

These are just some of the elements which make for a healthy lifestyle:

  • Balanced diet: a nutritious diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains can improve overall health.
  • Regular exercise: aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week.
  • Limit alcohol and stop smoking: excessive alcohol consumption and smoking can lead to serious health problems.
  • Adequate sleep and rest: prioritise quality sleep to support mental and physical well-being.
