NOTE: There are planned ongoing works along the B1018 through Cressing and on to Witham.
The Friends of Cressing Temple was established in 2013 and became a charity in 2016, we are managed and led by volunteers. We seek to conserve, enhance and develop the buildings, gardens and historic site at Cressing Temple, as a unique historical, social, horticultural and educational record and resource. We work closely with Essex County Council, who own and manage the site. We are always keen to attract new members and volunteers.
Our volunteering opportunities include the Community Garden, Tudor Walled Garden and Cullen garden (adjacent to the Farmhouse), we have an archive and a crafts group and we have recently secured an Arts Council Grant for our Working Farm project, to bring to life and reflect the Farming Heritage of Cressing Temple, including refurbishment of some farm machinery.

The community garden which was set up in 2016 has become a community hub with other groups based there including Braintree Beekeepers and Cressing Community Shed, who provide opportunities for woodworking, repairs and hobbies several days a week. Also Trustlinks, a mental health and wellbeing charity, currently provides a weekly session providing therapeutic gardening.
We raise funds through membership fees, sales of garden produce and plants, willow weaving courses, garden tours and our annual Apple Day in October, alongside applying for grants for specific pieces of work. We appreciate the support given to our work from Braintree District Council, Essex County Council, Essex Community Foundation and the Arts Council.

Temporary Traffic Regulation Order of Mill Lane, Cressing
Please click on the following link https://one.network/?tm=142254024 to find details of the intended closure of Mill Lane, due to commence on 14th April 2025 for 11 days. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while Essex County Council undertakes foul connection.
This is not a full road closure, but closes sections of the road from Mill Lane (Witham side) to Mill Lane junction with Crozier Drive.
Mill Lane (Braintree side) to Crozier Drive is not affected.
A120 Marks Farm to Marks Tey – safety improvements
Following a formal statutory process, I am writing to let you know that we’re reducing the speed limit on the A120 between Marks Farm (Braintree) and Marks Tey in the following sections:
Speed limit reduction from 60mph to 50mph between Bradwell and the existing 50mph speed limit on the Coggeshall bypass (a distance of approximately 3.9 km).
The existing 40mph speed limit through Bradwell will be extended approximately 635m to the east.
Speed limit reduction from 60mph to 50mph from the existing 50mph speed limit on the Coggeshall bypass to Marks Tey (a distance of approximately 1.72km).
Work also includes the installation of the new speed limit signage and five new average speed cameras to enforce the new speed limits. We are not responsible for the enforcement of speed limits: that responsibility lies with the relevant police force.
This location was chosen based on collision and risk assessment data. This scheme aims to improve safety for all road users by reducing the number of people harmed on this route.
We are planning to start work on Monday 31 March 2025 and will last into summer 2025. We will work between 9pm and 6am on weeknights only, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
Throughout our work dates, we will be implementing a combination of road closures and temporary traffic lights to minimise the number of closures necessary. Please refer to our website for the latest closure dates.
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A120 between Marks Farm and Marks Tey, and divert traffic as detailed below:
Traffic wanting to travel eastbound on the A120 will need to exit onto the A131 (Panners Roundabout / Great Notley Roundabout) and travel to junction 19 of the A12. Continue on the A12 to junction 25 where road users will be able to continue their journey or access local road networks at Marks Tey.
Traffic wanting to travel westbound on the A120 will need to continue on A12 until junction 19, join the A131 and rejoin the A120 at Great Notley Roundabout.
All laybys along the closure route will be inaccessible while we introduce the speed limit reduction and install the new variable speed cameras.
Ashbury Drive Roundabout Access for Properties
The Ashbury Drive Roundabout (Marks Tey) will remain open during the work. Residents can access their properties exclusively via this roundabout. If you reside in this area, please use the Marks Tey Roundabout to enter the A120 to reach your property.
ANGLIAN WATER – Information on Links Road to Cressing Tower 2km water mains replacement scheme (running from the water tower at Lanham Green Road/Withies Green in between Cressing and Bradwell, all the way down to Links Road).
Roads/areas affected include Links Road, Lanham Green, Withies Green, Lanham Green Road and Hollies Road, (plus increased traffic using Shardloes Lane, Church Road, The Street, Ashes Road and Long green to avoid the closure of Boars Tye Road from Shardloes Lane junction to Lanham Green Road).
The scheme will commence on 28 April and require closing Links Road for a total of nine weeks. Work will be undertaken in sections and all residents will be able to continue to access their properties via a fob/access code system. The work will be undertaken in three stages, as follows:
Monday 28 April – Tuesday 1 July, Links Road Closed, Live CCTV units with Dofygate (electronic Barrier) System for Access/Egress for residents living within road Closure.
Thursday 22 May – Tuesday 1 July, Lanham Green, from the junction of Shardloes Lane to junction of Lanham Green Road, again Live CCTV units with Dofygate (electronic Barrier) System for Access/Egress for residents living within road Closure.
Wednesday 4 June – Tuesday 1 July, extend phase 2 Road Closure to include the junction of Lanham Green Road and Lanham Green.
