Braintree District Council budget update

Investing in the community and protecting essential services – a key focus of our 2025/26 budget

We’ve published our 2025/26 budget proposals which shows we are able to balance our budget whilst protecting essential services and giving them a much-needed funding boost.

  • No cuts to services
  • No increase in charges in things that are important to residents, like the garden waste subscription service and car parking
  • Support for community – community groups to support local initiatives, continued cost of living support, investment in sports and community facilities
  • £500,000 to address growing pressures around temporary housing accommodation
  • Investment in community assets and pride in place, with extra money for things such as litter and dog bins, A120 cleaning and a new rapid response team

We’re making sure we get the job done, delivering services that matter most to our residents and businesses whilst planning for long-term service transformation to address the medium-term budget gap.

National Grid – Norwich to Tilbury Pylons

Norwich to Tilbury is a proposal for a new electricity transmission connection. It will play an important part in connecting low carbon, more affordable electricity from where it is generated to where it is needed.

Targeted consultation on changes in Norfolk and Suffolk – 12 noon Thursday 30 January until 11:59 pm Monday 3 March 2025

We’re holding a series of targeted consultations on some potential changes to the proposals we published at our statutory consultation in summer 2024.

Most of these changes have been identified from feedback we’ve received. Before we make any decisions, we are going back to consult with those people living near these proposed changes.

We are phasing the consultations starting with locations in Norfolk and Suffolk from Thursday 30 January until Monday 3 March 2025 and will follow up next month with locations in Essex and Thurrock. Each consultation will be open for 30 days. While these are local, targeted non-statutory consultations anyone can take part, and all our targeted consultations materials are available on our project website.

Providing feedback

While these are local, targeted non-statutory consultations anyone can take part, and all our targeted consultations materials are available on our project website.

Please let us know which location you’re providing feedback on when submitting comments. Each location has a reference name, which is available in the documentation in our project library nationalgrid.com/norwich-to-tilbury

You can take part either by emailing us, writing to us using our Freepost address or via the online questionnaire.

The consultation on this change is open from 12:00 noon 30 January until 11:59 pm 3 March 2025.

We will review all the feedback we receive and carefully consider it as we refine our proposals, ahead of submitting an application for a Development Consent Order (DCO) later this year.
