As well as providing information through these free orderable and downloadable resources, Start for Life also offers its email programme. The emails give NHS advice and support, tailored to the stage of a mother’s pregnancy or baby’s age. The personalised emails have been created to support mums, parents and carers throughout pregnancy and parenthood. Features of the Start for Life email programme include

  • Different email programmes for mums, dads, partners and carers with tailored information for each.
  • Emails can be translated into a range of different languages.
  • Pregnancy emails contain information on baby’s development, changes in a woman’s body, plus tips and advice on labour and birth, finding antenatal classes, what foods to eat (and avoid) during pregnancy, exercising safely and bonding with baby.
  • Post birth emails include advice on baby’s development, breast and bottle feeding, coping with tiredness, introducing solid foods and looking after mental wellbeing and more.

For more information on the email programme, and to help promote it to colleagues and your service users, you can find and download a handy information video here:

Rescue Me! Recycle

Rescue Me! Recycle – Information from Braintree District Council

This year we are supporting Recycle Week (14 – 20 October) to celebrate the efforts of people in our district and to ensure that common items of packaging are being recycled properly.

Did you know that nearly eight out of ten of us recycle incorrectly? Even though we might think it doesn’t make a difference, every item we recycle helps to conserve resources and reduce our environmental impact.

Why recycle?

  • Preserve valuable materials: recycling helps to recover valuable materials that can be used again, reducing the need for extraction.
  • Protect the environment: by recycling, we help to conserve energy and reduce pollution.

Check out what can be recycled on our website.  There is also a video that explains what happens to the recycling that is collected at kerbside.

Food allergy alert

Food Standards Agency issues food allergy alert

Earlier this week, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued a notice advising those with peanut allergies about some market-available mustard products being tainted.

The FSA has asked the industry to review their food supply systems and remove from sale any products that may have contaminated mustard ingredients.

They have advised those with peanut allergies to avoid eating anything containing mustard until all potentially contaminated products have been identified.

Parents and carers of children who have a peanut allergy should take care to check the labels of food they buy and, if eating out, or getting a takeaway, ask the restaurant or cafe about foods that might contain mustard.
