Key facts
- Installed capacity: 13.8 MWac
- Electricity generated equivalent to the consumption of about 6,300 average homes
- Approximately 5,500 tonnes CO2 saved each year
- Solar panels would use the latest tracker technology with battery storage so power can be used when it is needed most
- Continued agricultural use with sheep grazing and substantial biodiversity improvements
- Community and educational benefit fund for local people
Why solar?
- Solar is now subsidy free, it is one of the cheapest electricity-generating technologies and contributes to lower energy prices for everyone
- Solar can boost the UK’s energy security reducing our reliance on imported energy and the impacts of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
- The UK government has a Net Zero target of 2050 and aims to fully decarbonise the electricity grid by 2035
- Essex County Council has a target to meet all the county’s energy needs from renewables by 2040
Why here?
- The site is relatively well screened due to existing topography, mature trees and hedgerows
- It is close to Braintree and the villages of White Notley, Faulkbourne and Silver End
which can benefit from clean energy
- It is adjacent to an existing solar farm which integrates with the landscape
- Eden Renewables has secured a grid connection nearby
- Essex is one of the sunniest counties in the UK
